Essential oils - Pest Control Blends

Using essential oils can make your home feel bright, clean, and inviting to guests, but it is also a really effective and natural way to turn it into a no-go zone for the more unwelcome visitors—pests and creepy crawlers, that is!

I didn’t believe it at first, but then I heard of diffusing essential oils to help control Pests Control.  You can clean, set traps, spend money on a sealer to fill cracks in your walls; and no matter what you do pests will still find their way into your house. If you buy sprays to keep the pests out, it either doesn't work the way it’s supposed to, or you have a lingering chemical odor that can be harmful to yourself or animals.

With essential oils it is a natural safe way to get rid of the pests in your home.  When purchasing essential oils, check the label for ingredients. You want to make sure you’re buying the purest form possible, free of added synthetic chemicals.

So here we go with a few:

Citronella oil -  is very popular for repelling insects, and it can be found in a lot of natural insecticides. Some of the insects repelled by citronella include mosquitoes, flies, and other insects.

Peppermint oil - is a very pleasing smell to humans, but incredibly repulsive to a variety of insects including mosquitoes, spiders, flies, ants, fleas, and even mice if you have a rodent problem.

Tea tree oil -  is perfect for repelling pests if you are infested with ants, spiders, mosquitoes, fleas, lice, and ticks. Do not use tea tree oil around your pets such as cats or dogs.

Lavender oil - is well known for its presence in many soaps and skin care products. But it is also an excellent way to deter pests such as fleas, flies, and black beetles.

Lemongrass oil - has many uses, and it will also easily repel other varieties of flies, fleas, mosquitoes, and even some forms of bacteria.

Basil oil - is delicious in a lot of recipes, but it is incredibly offensive to insects such as stink bugs and many varieties of stinging bugs. Basil oil is very effective if mixed in a spray bottle with apple cider vinegar.

Catnip oil - has been made popular by the effect that it has on felines, but did you know that essential oil made from catnip can be effectively used to repel cockroaches and mosquitoes?

Thyme oil - can be wonderful for use in cooking, and also for effectively repelling insects such as mosquitoes and whiteflies.

Mint oil - is incredibly effective for repelling a variety of pests, including mosquitoes, flies, ants, and more. You can also try adding mint plants to your garden in order to keep bugs at bay from the outside of your home.

Geranium oil - makes a good repellent if you are dealing with mosquitoes, and a variety of other insects. You can also try adding some geraniums to your garden to help repel pests outside from coming inside.

Cedarwood oil - is a good way to repel ants, beetles, and moths. It also works well in a mixture with many other types of essential oils.

Eucalyptus - is a common flea, tick, and mosquito repellant.

Other essential oils -  Some less potent options that you may find in natural bug sprays and the like are Rosemary, Basil, Thyme, garlic oil

Ants and Spiders:  Peppermint is the big one to use, but you can also use citrus oils (lemon or orange), lavender, citronella, and cedarwood.

Fleas:  Peppermint, lavender, citronella (lemongrass) in a combination sprayed around the house, the floors, around animal bedding, and animal living space can help keep these guys at bay.

Mice:  Peppermint oil is just too strong for them. Place 5 drops on a cotton ball, then place the cotton balls by doorways, windows, and heat vents.  Make a peppermint spray and spray around windows, small cracks, and doors.

Centipedes:  Tea tree oil is toxic to centipedes. Spray a dilution to door frames, windows, small cracks, and basement doors.

Bees & wasps:  Don’t get cocky.  Use proper bee removal spray if you are trying to take down a hive.

The ones with the *** don't have the number of drops to use, so remember to go by the number of drops your diffuser recommends and add them evenly up to the closest number that matches your diffuser

Always remember essential oils can never take the experience a medical professional has. With that being said, I’ll see you on Thursday where I will continue with diffusing essential oils about Pest Control blends from my little book of essential oil blends..
